Much wisdom from a very Godly man!

Very interesting & insightful work! It's amazing to me that someone who lives mostly in a cloistered environment can have so much wisdom about how people work & act. This is a Cistercian publication, so the intro is very obviously slanted to their lifestyle. Which isn't all bad - just a heads up. Book 2 of this work is almost a defense of Cistercian life (which had come under much criticism at the time for being too harsh). But even in the midst of that is good, good reading.
The "charity" that he refers to is love - love of God and people & how we live that out. The book is not just about helping others, our common use of "charity.
I have also read his On Spiritual Friendship, which is his last major work (this being the first). I prefer it - it's shorter & more full of practical advice & counsel and very applicable to our lives today. That is the only reason to give this 4, not 5, stars.
If you haven't read Aelred, I strongly recommend it!
