Herodotus was a Greek historian who was born in Halicarnassus, in Asia Minor, in the fifth century B.C. Herodotus, his marvelous history of 450 B.C.

This book is a translation of ancient Mediterranean travels written by Greek Herodotus ~ 450-420 B.C. This is a marvelous translation of Herodotus history and the goings on of his times. Herodotus seems to be a careful observer of the events of people and countries of those times.

The difficulty I had with the book was the city names most of which no longer exist or have changed their name. I wish I could have had a map of their locations.

Important; Insightful; Imperfect

Nicholas Hagger is a wonderful writer, whose works I have only recently discovered, and yet have thoroughly enjoyed. Here, he takes on the very important topic of the freemasonic founding, development, and current status of the United States of America. And he does so in a manner that is both wonderfully entertaining and extraordinarily insightful.

Hagger's thesis is essentially that the elite who founded America, and have ever since run her, hide behind a Christian veneer their duplicitious masonic agenda. He proves this conclusively, with meticulous documentation, and truly admirable style.

With Hagger, I always seem to have a couple points of contention. And this excellent work is no exception. Early on, he succombs, I think, to stock anti-Catholic propaganda in his description of early Catholic Florida. And his final statement reflects a certain sympathy with the notion of a One World Government, so long as that entity is animated by the "Light". Yet, these departures from sound logic and revelation do not significantly detract from the overall excellence of this very important and insightful book. I recommend this book strongly to anyone who would understand the true nature of American history and the contemporary influences on American governance. And I look forward to absorbing still more wisdom from this really quite excellent expositor.

very informational. He has a very non biased view on the beginnings of the United States. He avoids the conspiracy theories with factual knowledge. I have read other books on the FreeMasons, but this one reveals all sides of their society and explains the direction they wish to travel. A definite read for anyone interested in secret societies and how it is tied in with the founding of north america.

Fact and fiction

I would recommend this book to anyone who is unaware of the fact that George Washington was a Mason. Freemasons were heavily involved in the founding of America and were also involved in the founding of the cities and towns across this nation, even after the Revolution. Taking advantage of their secret society allowed the Masons to do behind the scenes political work which was needed. However, the author's main point is that the Masons were against the Puritans and Christianity. I don't think he substantiated that point. The undermining of the Puritans was mostly done by the Unitarian Sect which was active and illegal in this country until Washington allowed them to worship openly. If the author would have connected the Masons to the Unitarians, he would have shined the light of truth on a conspiracy. As it is, I have to wonder if the real conspiracy isn't that the historians manage to overlook the Unitarians and their hand in the demise of Puritanism in this country and their continued anti-Christian activities.

Motherhood is a catalyst -- Nazneen's daughters chafe against their father's traditions and pride -- and to her own amazement, Nazneen falls in love with a young man in the community. She discovers both the complexity that comes with free choice and the depth of her attachment to her husband, her daughters, and her new world. While Nazneen journeys along her path of self-realization, her sister, Hasina, rushes headlong at her life, first making a "love marriage," then fleeing her violent husband. Woven through the novel, Hasina's letters from Dhaka recount a world of overwhelming adversity. Shaped, yet not bound, by their landscapes and memories, both sisters struggle to dream -- and live -- beyond the rules prescribed for them.

About the Author
Florian Homm is the great-nephew of the deceased German mail-order giant Josef Neckermann and was the personification of the unscrupulous corporate raider. The enfant terrible controlled over three billion dollars in the financial sector with his company Absolute Capital Management Holding (ACMH). With an infusion of 20 million euro, he single-handedly saved one of the best German soccer teams. On the 18th of September, 2007, he vanished without a trace. Since then he’s been on the run.

A hard-as-nails capitalist and a cross between Mike Tyson and Einstein

"Rogue Financier" is a page turner, sheer madness, and a clear candidate for the movies. Florian Homm was nothing less than a German Gordon Gekko, a hard-as-nails capitalist who conquered the Olympus of the capitalistic system and then fell back to earth in true the-harder-they-come-the-deeper-they-fall style. Howard Marks brings the character and the book to the point: "... a cross between Mike Tyson and Einstein, Jekyll and Hyde. [...] the Klaus Kinski of hedge fund management, an amoral functional psychopath. And he has a unique story to tell, a story so unbelievable that it will send a shiver down the reader's spine more than just once." It's a brilliant book, a must-read!
