I recieved this book in great conditions from the seller. It's actually not as heavy as it looks. Reading-wise, the chapters are longer than you would expect and is very dry to read.

Nice book but unfortunately with unacceptable errors

Strickberger's Evolution

The book is for sure very well produced and of high value. But I was really shocked as I noted that the Krebs cycle (page 169 in the fourth edition) is reproduced with lots of errors a novice would for sure struggle with this representation. What is unacceptable in my opinion is that the same error is also present in the former third edition (page 168). It is to hope that the evolution of this book in a 5th edition would lead to a much more trustable book.

Breathtaking

I absolutely love this series. And the third installment has only made my affection for this story and it's aouthor have sustantially. The character interaction is so real, the story flows better and becomes more enchanting, and the romance is unlike most, were-as it is simple and uncomplicated, but still interesting becouse of this. The religion found in the books is also very well designed, clearly inspied by prominent religions today, especially christianity. There is so much more I can say, but for now I'll just wait for the next book, can't wait! Any fan of fantasy should get thier hands on these books.

I cannot hardly wait for the next books to come out!! The first three were amazing. I loved the charachters and the relationships they had with one another. I loved the flow of the book and the adventures. The animals were so amazing and realistic I wanted to be there to experience them. Aram is a hero, yet has all the flaws of one who struggles with humaness.PLEASE HURRY WITH THE NEXT BOOK!!!

Now anticipating Book 4

I've loved this series, but after the phenomenal ending of Book 2, I wasn't sure what I'd find with this one. However, I was pulled back into this story from the opening pages when Aram is searching for a way out of darkness, back to Ka'en. I liked that during his struggle to live we got a chance to see events through others' eyes. Once Aram recovers he starts traveling the world to build his armies, and we see more of this world and meet alot more of the people in it. Manon, his thoughts, and his methods take a larger part of this tale. Aram learns about the danger of the dragons, encounters one of their offspring, and unravels the history of the last horrorific war against Manon through tales and the physical evidence he encounters on his voyage. We are also given the chance to guess how Elam will factor into the coming war, and it's very easy to despise their avaricious, jaded, Carthaginian-like society. My favorite scene in this installment involves strife between Aram and an unknown beast in "the lost". This author has mastered war scenes, and he proves here that he can masterfully describe a desperate, and spooky, survival match between two vastly different beings. Another favorite scene takes place between Joktan and Ka'en toward the end. We see Ka'en's pride for the man she loves and the request she makes of Joktan strikes as so natural and true from her perspective, even though I didn't think about it until that moment.

I had read this series a couple times over when my husband finally decided to read it. He is not an avid reader, but he read this series fast and was impressed. We are both looking forward to Book 4. I expect it to be more shocking than Book 2. And I have no doubt that there will finally be full war, but I hope the author will not sacrifice Thaniel, Ka'en or Durlrang in the process.

Overcoming Adversity

I've realized that this series is based in stories about resiliency or overcoming adversity as told through animal stories. Why it took several books for me to get it, don't know. But each has shown some of the critical features in the recovery from what are devastating blows, like losing family, re-location, injury, and how adaptation has gone on- thanks to the intervention of a team of concerned people.

Winter is a dolphin that loses her tail. She's a young baby also losing family when her tail gets entwined in ropes. People see her struggle and respond, first a fisherman, and he works to save her, but her tail isn't so lucky. She's named Winter for the season. Eventually due to broadcasting her story from her rescue another person works to develop a prosthesis tail. Winter then learns within her life and these pages to survive using this tail.

It's a really good story especially for children learning to overcome obstacles as a part of what they need to do. Of course she makes a friend and she appears to have a fulfilling life.

The series has been a very good one for inclusion in the teaching. I would definitely recommend it.

Wonderful heartwarming uplifting book of hope and encouragement for any of life's challenges that we face. The Hatkoff authors are creating a series of beautiful stories that have helped many many children and adults face issues that are so difficult. This is also very educational in the material presented.

It is the story of how Kevin Carroll who designed Winter's Tale worked miracles with Winter as he does with human's and their prosthetics all over the world. He is presently working on Chrissie, a beautiful sandhill crane (almost 50" tall bird) who lost her lower leg on a golf course. Chrissie lives at Save Our Seabirds ([...]). in Sarasota, Florida which is only an hour away from Winter's home in Clearwater, Florida! She is now going through the fittings that Winter did for her tail! She was named "Chrissie" short for Christmas because that was the first day she strutted in her initial prosthetic!

True stories of hope are excellent gifts for those overcoming adversities in their lives. This little girl dolphin has definitely done that!

The writing and stunning photography are beautiful and simple but so powerful in their message. All ages from very young to adult will enjoy this story of the people surrounding this adorable dolphin who is now thriving in her own new home. She just celebrated her 5th birthday and is doing great --learning new tricks and skills all the time. Encouragement galore for us all!!

Bravo and Accolades!!!

Baillie is such a breath of fresh air in the world of science, archaeology, climatology, and dating; even geology and astronomy. It all becomes relevant here. Archaeology is often lacking hard science in my view, but not so with Baillie. He understands and tries to obey the proper scientific method and he lacks the prejudice and the "chip on the shoulder" when it comes to various records of peoples of the past. If you want a well explained and thorough summation of tree ring dating, Climate factors, geological aspects, etc, this is for you and you will not regret it. Dendrochronology as they call dating using tree rings, is a far more precise science than is say Carbon 14. Carbon 14 is useful and has its place but it also has many limitations. Tree rings have theirs, too, in that though you have a precise year for a climate event, tracking down the causes can be a challenge. But if a good match is available, you have the most certain form of dating there is. Only astronomy can rival this. If you are into dating science, this is the Tree Rings 101 that you don't want to be without. I actually find his geological info also very fascinating. He has often worked with Clube and Napier, of Comet and Astronomical fame, which soft imprecise sciences such as Archaeology do not like, due to its interfering with their established work and propaganda. I am still reviewing this at times. Can't say enough good about it.

Excellent; strongly recommend.

This is probably the best overall book on dendrochronology for the non-specialist. I like Mr. Baillie's writing and wry sense of humor. He presents a very balanced overview on both dendrochronology's unique strengths but also some pitfalls for the unwary. The discussion of the dating of Thera is the best I have read.

I was thrust into that supervisory position and left to “sink or swim.” I vowed at that time that if I ever got the education, training, and experience to write a simple guide for others, I would. And I did. I hope it helps others who are thrust into management positions to succeed and make their business and personal lives less stressful, to say nothing about the increased quality of life for the people who have to work for them.If you had to boil down the message of Common Sense Management to one sentence, what would it be? No theories, no fluff; just good old common sense on how to succeed in the real world of management in any industry. How long did it take you to write Common Sense Management?Well, I had to take the time to make lots of errors, figure out how to correct them, deal with both competent and incompetent bosses (I learned from both), and I spent 13 years in night school and 25 years of practical experience in both the public and private sectors. Then I had to write the book. So the short answer is: a lifetime.

Restates Simple but Important Lessons

If you're looking for a supervision textbook, this ain't it. If you're looking for an integrated theory of leadership, this ain't it.

But if you'd like to have a simple, little book that will prod you and remind you about actions and attitudes that go into good supervision, then Common Sense Supervision is an excellent choice.

This book is a collection of common sense thoughts about supervision, each paired with a quote. This is not a book to read straight through. It's a book to keep handy and dip into from time to time.

Nothing here is novel. Nothing here is difficult. Nothing here is likely to leave you slapping your forehead at some incredible insight you've never heard before.

But that doesn't mean that the material here isn't important and it doesn't mean you don't need to be reminded of it from time to time. That's what this book is excellent for, reminding you about important things.

If you're in charge of a group and you're the sort of person who benefits from quick review of things you already know are important, then buy this book. It will be worth far more than the cover price. Buy it and dip into it frequently.

On the other hand, if you find yourself feeling insulted when you read something you already know, something that's "common sense," then don't waste your money on this book. Go find something that does give you value.

Don't think to hard, it only takes a little "Common Sense"

Common Sense Supervision by Roger V. Fulton is a clear-cut guide for those who have obtained a new supervisory position and/or those who have been in a supervisory position for a short period. I think it is more geared toward the first time supervisor and could be a very useful tool by those who are becoming first time supervisors, whether it be through promotion or direct job placement. Roger V. Fulton has written this book in a clear-cut, no-nonsense style that can be understood by anyone. It touches on many, but not all of the situations that a supervisor may face. The book outlines the major responsibilities of a supervisor and many of the problems they may face with these added responsibilities. It begins by assuring you that you have made strides in the right direction by purchasing the book. The ideas, concepts, and solutions presented in this book are so practical and concise that they can be used immediately to help assist any supervisor be a good or better supervisor than they ever thought they could be. The book also states that its text does not tell you how to handle every situation since every situation, employee, and supervisor is different. I think that is good to let the reader know that this book doesn't have all the answers, which I think no book can do when it comes to dealing with people. The books material really gives you a guide to follow in order to be successful as a supervisor, but it is the individual who must use this guide along with their own common sense to handle each new and challenging situation they may face. The book touches on topics such as your role as a supervisor, getting along with your boss, setting the example for your employees, winning the respect of your employees, winning confidence, and preventing and handling problems in the work environment. The book explains these topics in a common, everyday workplace sense and even gives a brief problem solving method and a decision making process that can be followed by the reader. At times the book seems to be a reassurance for the reader of their abilities to be a successful supervisor. It reads too at times like a confidence builder for someone struggling in the position of supervising or someone unsure of their ability to become a supervisor. I think this book does a great job of providing the reader with a lot of essential information that can be used in everyday situations. It also does a good job of letting the reader know that there is a lot more to being a supervisor than what's contained in its text. The book is merely a start of what it takes to be a successful supervisor, as it states, "experience will be your best teacher and you will be its best student." This book is a great asset for any supervisor, whether it is the new start supervisor looking for success or the already successful supervisor who has forgotten the basics that made them successful in the first place.

This is the type of book that should be read by anyone who has been promoted to some supervisory position. As we all know, "common sense is not so common." Indeed, the title "common sense" is exactly what this fine book delivers to the reader. This book has eight chapters beginning with an introduction, it moves to an explanation of you and the organization. It covers such topics as you as a supervisor, winning respect, winning confidence, winning loyalty, preventing and handling problems, and administration. The Appendix sections alone are worth the price of the book because they explain 25 traits of excellent supervisors, 25 traits of poor supervisors, 25 common mistakes of new supervisors. Written in the 1950's, still a relevant, timely book

In the search for resources dealing with the great flood of scripture, I've found this book to be an excellent resource. Although written in the 50's, the content is still surprisingly up to date, well reasoned, well presented, and well documented. Mr. Rehwinkle deals with pre and post flood material as well. Concordia Publishing House is still publishing this book in paperback almost half a century later for good reason. If you're interested in the topics of the deluge, pre or antediluvian man, or just want to read a book that provides overwhelming evidence of a worldwide flood, this belongs on your bookshelf.

Alfred Rehwinkel - A Short Bio

Alfred Rehwinkel was born in a log cabin June 25 1887 in Merrill Wisconsin into a German Lutheran pastor's family. He received his ministerial degree from Concordia Lutheran Seminary, St. Louis in 1910. Rehwinkel began his career in Canada when he was called to Trinity Lutheran Church in Pincher Creek (1910 - 1914) and then to St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Edmonton (1914 - 1922). He furthered his education by attending the University of Alberta, receiving a B.A. in 1916, an M.A. in 1918 and a B.D. in 1919. He also attend the St. Stephens College of Theology 1916 - 1917.

He was the President of the Alberta and British Columbia Conference of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod from 1912 - 1918 and promoted the idea of establishing a college in Canada.. As a member of the School Board of the Alberta British Columbia District of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod he was instrumental in founding Concordia College. He became the chairman, secretary and treasurer of the Board of Control of Concordia College during 1920 through 1922. Rehwinkel was also the first full Professor on the College staff and held the History chair from 1922 - 1928. Besides history, professor Rehwinkel also taught classes in sciences, geography and German.

Dr. Rehwinkel took an active role within the community of Edmonton. He was the founder and president of the Edmonton Zoological Society (1921 - 1928), a member of the Board of Directors of the Edmonton Arts Association, served on the Edmonton Library Board, was a member of the Canadian National Diamond Jubilee Committee (1927) and encouraged by the Canadian German National Association, ran for Edmonton alderman.

His concern for the treatment of German immigrants residing in Canada after the first world war resulted in his forming the Canadian German National Association. The purpose of the group was to counteract anti-German prejudice and discrimination which had shown itself during the war years. He translated O Canada into German which was sung all over the Dominion until the second world war. At this point Germans were encouraged to speak English at most gatherings.

Due to the ill health of his wife, Dr. Bessie, Dr. Rehwinkel reluctantly gave up his residence in the Canada which he loved and returned to the United States as President of St. John's College, Winfield, Kansas. His next call was to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis where he continued to take special interest in the Canadian students enrolled at the Seminary, helping and encouraging them with their studies.

His most important literary work is his very popular book The Flood: In the Light of the Bible, Geology, and Archaeology. Though written in the 1950's this text is still a fundamental work that is a standard in many conservative Bible Colleges and Seminaries. This work is still in print and is available on the world wide web.

Myth, Legend or Fact?

While you may ask why anyone would want to read a book about "The Flood," to me the possibility of one day actually being able to see the remains of the ark for myself has always intrigued me.

Some believe the event to be a myth or legend. Alfred M. Rehwinkel explains how nearly every nation and tribe in the entire human race has a flood myth. The peoples of Egypt, Mexico, America, India, Pacific Islands, Asia, Australia and Africa all have a story to tell. It seems to deny the existence of a flood rejects the most ancient and most sacred traditions of universal humanity.

One of the most fascinating discoveries is also recorded in this book. The great Gilgamesh Epic was found in the ruins of the Assurbanipal library in Nineveh. The narrative bears a striking resemblance to the writings of Moses in Genesis. It was in fact written centuries before.

According to the author, there are many reasons modern man has rejected the possibility of a flood. Many scholars do however believe it to be the greatest catastrophe in the history of the earth.

Alfred M. Rehwinkel goes into great detail and shows how the ark was in fact quite capable of holding a great number of animals. He explains how many of the animals at the time could be found in the vicinity and that the climate, animal and plant life, where vastly different in Noah's time.

He answers the following questions in detail:

1. Where did all the water come from? 2. When did "The Flood" begin? 3. What was the population of the earth before "The Flood." 4. Why was there a flood and why was Noah saved?

He also goes on to show how the earth would have in fact been a virtual paradise with a warm climate and food for all. In his opinion, the earth was rich with resources and most likely sustained a great number of people. He also believes they had reached a high level of civilized culture. He basis his opinions on archeological discoveries.

A diagram on page 10 also explains how if the earth was perpendicular to the plane of its orbit, there would have been no change in the seasons. The seasons may in fact be a result of the earth tilting 23 1/2 degrees at the time of the flood.

If you are interested in archeology, you will enjoy reading about the fossil remains and how many different species were found all in one location in mass graves. This goes against modern geology, which is based on a system of biological evolution. (Oh, by the way, I have a Trilobite fossil my father brought me from Russia.)

This book does in fact succeed in bringing to our attention, the most outstanding evidence for a universal flood from a geological and archaeological standpoint. The most fascinating part of this intellectual work was the story of a Russian aviator named Mr. Vladimar Roskivitsky. He actually claims to have seen the remains of Noah's Ark on Mount Ararat in 1942.

Good phrase book

Basic but comprehensive for a phrase book and helpful for a tourist but you will need to ask someone to help with pronunciation. Very good prompt and excellent for memorising.
