Funny!

I had to give this 5 Stars as I've never laughed out loud so much during scenes. The author creates vivid character; even the ones you don't like are interesting. Poor Murphy seems to have no luck and wherever he goes, chaos follows. Can he live a normal life? Can he find a girlfriend? Can he walk down a street without someone having to an ambulance? I only wish there had been one more public transportation scene. An air plane would have been nice...
if you like humor you'll like Murphy's Luck.

A heartwarming romp, suitable for young and old alike

Just happened to stumble on this book and was thoroughly delighted by the twists and turns and laugh-out-loud fun that ensued. If you like puzzles, numbers, wordplay, slapstick, love stories, and more, you'll love Murphy's Luck! I was looking for a quick read and a departure from the spate of darkly suspenseful books that seem to line the shelves lately, and this little gem delivered. Mr. Laskin created a charming cast of characters with just enough depth to satisfy those with more philosophical inclinations. Will need to read this one again to unearth more of the multitude of clues, references, foreshadowing, and bits of wisdom buried inside. I look forward to reading more of Mr. Laskin's novels.

LAUGHING OUT LOUD IS GOOD FOR YOU, RIGHT?

Tired of reading mysteries, thrillers, who's going to marry the next Billionaire? Finding nothing new in books featuring mail order brides, how to be debt free or coping with grief? Are you interested in a book that is whimsical, a little over the top, with humor thrown in? I recommend “Murphy's Luck” written by an author who must have a strange outlook on life but is an excellent purveyor of words. He marches to a different drummer and if you read the book you'll get my humor from those words.

Great book, easy read, and answered all my questions

For starters I'm in between a novice and a pro with several hundred thousand photos under my belt and a pretty good knowledge of my (dated) Rebel XTi. After finally realizing my dream of owning an EOS 6D (yeah!) the reality set in that there were a number of features that I didn't have experience with or understand, that I wouldn't master from reading the manual, and that even if I figured it out I'd probably not be utilizing it to the fullest extent. I wanted a book that didn't just repeat the information in the manual, gave insight into the ways a pro would use the feature in real life, and didn't spend time in other areas like photo composition, etc. If this sounds familiar then this is the book for you!

I found David Busch's coverage of the camera and associated features very well organized, logical, and at the appropriate depth. It's a great reminder of things you may already know (e.g. Tv and Av modes) to things you may not have realized (like how the two different focus systems work and their strengths/weaknesses). For instance, I never knew that the focus dots had a vertical, horizontal (or both) orientation but ALAS it immediately explained why I had that hard time focusing on that subject the other day!

This book goes through your EOS 6D from top to bottom, but does it in a logical and intuitive way. His writing style is plain and effective which makes even the most difficult features easy to digest.

I think the best summary was stated somewhere before along these lines: the manual tells you what the features do, but if you want to know when/how to use those features you will need a good book and this is the one!

The book that really opens up capability of Canon EOS 6D

After purchasing my new Canon EOS 6D (WG) and reading the supplied factory user manual, I was not satisfied with the content and details of that manual. So David Busch's Canon 6D Digital SLR photography was the excellent resource to complete the necessary knowledge anyone should have if you want to take advantage of all the technical sophistication this camera can deliver. This is my first full-frame DSLR and the second Canon DSLR that I have been using for the last 10 years (EOS 20D). One thing is for sure, reading the explanations of any controls and buttons in this camera could be very beneficial but you have to use them many times and experience the feel and behavior of this device. I have just started to feel a little more comfortable with 6D after shooting my first 250 exposures outside and inside with my Canon 580EX Speedlite. The only thing I would say that David Busch did not really emphasized the advantage of shooting in RAW format. However, he said that raw images would give you more freedom to do post-processing of your photos. Another thing he never mentioned about Light Room as the most popular photo editing software. He was advising to use Canon EOS Digital software that was included with the camera or just using Adobe Photoshop. When you choose RAW quality of your images, you end up capturing about 22 to 24 MB of data for each file. Yes, you would need larger SD memory cards but I think the benefits of shooting in RAW overweight the additional expense of like 64 GB SDHC card. He is professional sport and events photographer so he usually ends up shooting thousands of images at one session so he uses L-fine JPEG quality that gives him more images per card and he does not want to spend too much time post-processing them. Even when I go to overseas vacation for 2 weeks, the maximum number of images I usually shoot is about 600 to 800. I always try to think and take a little more time before I squeeze that shutter release button to create the best photo I could take. Now it's going to be easy to come up with the creative photos I really want to take. In conclusion, David's book is the must to have combined with many hours of practicing all the modes and custom functions this Canon EOS 6D can give you.

Good Summary

This is the second David Busch book I have purchased, and I think he does a very good job of supplementing the Canon manual. To some extent, perhaps to a large extent, the contents of his books are recycled through many different camera models because he is teaching the same principles of photography over and over again regardless of the specific camera model the book targets. Of course he does adapt it to each specific model as well. Speaking of models, that's not a bad business model! But, nevertheless, among the several different books of the same genre, I believe this is the best one.

Outstanding professional resource!

Ok, I was very skeptical. I've bought several "professional" pilot resources, most have been disappointing. I kept considering this book, it is pricey, but finally ordered it.
It is absolutely the best single source regulatory/AIM professional pilot oriented review in existence. If you disagree with an interpretation of a regulation, Mr. Lengel has thoroughly documented his sources so you can easily check the source yourself. Plus (and this is a plus) there are indeed a lot of cheesy graphics to keep the text entertaining, plus a few wry comments on some of the questionable regs our wonderful FAA has imposed upon us.
I can't recommend this one highly enough. I am an ATP with 9000+ hours, currently flying for a night cargo airline, spent 18 years flying heavy transports in the ANG as well, plus some time as a Part 121 airline driver. Mr. Lengel has done a great service for all professional pilots, choke up the money if you are serious!

This book is totally amazing. In a CFI class of 8, one person bought it the first day. We all were skeptical, it was a little bit more money than your average pilot handbook. By the end of the week, 6 of the 8 had it. By the end of the second week everyone had it. It is so incredibly easy to read and understand. As it states on the cover, "Plain English" that couldn't be more accurate. I own a long shelf of pilot books but this one is the only one that seems to sum everything up. The part I love about this book the most is its quick reference qualities. That day you're sitting around wondering about something or your student asks a question and you draw a blank, all you need to do is crack this book and the answer is right there in bold letters (literally).
This book probably wouldn't be of much use for someone who isn't already familiar with the material however.

Going from CFI In training to Commercial ATP I use this book

A few years ago I bought the 5th Edition in hopes of finding a book that would easily help me review for student lessons and just clear up some of the CFI lounge arguments. The book has helped not only me but my students and fellow c.f.i. friends explain many of the harder questions.

I also used the books 121 section to study and review for my First regional airline interview. I was the only one out of an interview group of 12 that received an invitation to work for the airline. Every so often I bring the book along with me on trips to keep current with everything, every pilot who borrows it eager to see what I'm reading always says "huh i didn't know that... this is great where did you get this book!"

Now that I have my first Mainline Interview coming up soon, I bought the 6th Edition along with several other well known interview books to study with. I cant recommend this book enough to every level of pilot out there who wants an extremely easy to read book with all the important stuff you need!

I've lived near the beach for close to thirty years, so it was fun to finally write about it. This book had many inspirations; every time I visit a local beach and watch the tourists in their kayaks, the barking sea lions and experience the stinky smell, I chuckle and think about my book. The theme of this book is freedom, and I wanted to explore how freedom is experienced by different characters. I've written a suspense and a romance, and this time around I wanted to combine the two. Enjoy reading!

This would be an excellent book for a high school English class

This book is deceiving in that the beginning does not tell you what the book is about. As you continue, everything starts coming together and all the plots intertwine. It is extremely interesting with lots of unexpected results. This would be an excellent book for a high school English class. There is no bad language or vulgar overtones yet it has a lot of different topics to discuss. I very much enjoyed reading this book.

Best beach read of the summer!

A page turner of a mystery taking place in a typical Southern California beach town. The plot is both gripping and believable, and the characters are well-developed and reflect typical personas found in any beach city. So realistic (I live in a beach town myself), I was sure I was going to read about a local haunt on the very next page. The best beach read of the summer!

Suspenseful Beach Read!

What a fabulous read I had this summer with The Smallest of Waves by Janice Coy! This book drove me a bit crazy, though, because I'd be at work and want to get home so I could read another chapter...... or two...........or three! The author introduced just the right number of characters so that the reader was able to follow the intertwined story lines easily, but not predictably. I want to point out that not only was this a suspenseful read, it was also educational. The author put a great deal of research into various aspects of her storyline which assisted the reader with a clear visualization of events. You can see each character (including a cute little dog), you can feel, see, smell,( while chewing your fingernails --- suspense!) and wander your way through each well-crafted chapter. Loved it!
