Good starter book
By Palle Agermark
This short book is a great book if you don't have much experience with SSRS report development for Dynamics AX and just need to get started.
The book explains how to develop reports with auto design and precision design. On a little more advanced level it also explains how to create drill through reports, matrix and chart reports. All of these areas are explained through straightforward steps to follow.
Report deployment and maintenance is also covered.
A particular nice chapter covers the UI for reports and the related data contacts. If you have trouble understanding the Model-view-controller (MVC) pattern used in AX 2012, I can really recommend this chapter.
For reference the book has a good appendix with list of common functions, and do's and don't lists for AX report development.

Good to get started with SSRS and AX
By Klaas Deforche
This book promises that it will help you learn to develop SSRS reports for Microsoft Dynamics AX, and it delivers on that promise. I had little experience with developing reporting but after reading the book I know exactly where to begin.
The book is really hands on, everything is explained using examples. That's great but in the first chapters, I felt like I needed some more text explaining what everything was and when it should be used. From the chapter about data providers on, things are more explained. Those DP's are what you probably will be using the most anyway so maybe that's not so bad.
At the end of the book there are appendices that contain useful information, so be sure the read those. They contain useful info which I would like to have seen mixed in the chapter but hey, the content is there.
If you already have experience with developing SSRS reports for AX, this book probably isn't for you, although you might learn new stuff. The book covers things experienced SSRS developers said was "impossible".
All in all this is a good book to get you started with SSRS and AX.

Nice starter guide, for AX Devs practicing SSRS reports
By Angela B
This book contains comprehensive step by step guidance for creating basic SSRS reports on Dynamics AX 2012 data (and connecting these into AX).
It's a good place to start, if you are dipping your toes into these new SSRS reports that are required for AX2012. I enjoyed reading it, and liked that it was quite light and easy to follow - as some technical publications can be very heavy going.
You will need an instance of Dynamics AX and SSRS in order to work through the examples, as the book does not offer much value for just reading along - it's more of the practical guide.
