I've always wondered about the multifacetedness of Indian civilisation and culture. I've read ancient Indian texts that offer timeless wisdom. But the culture of Indian visual forms is a new territory for me. The book `Aakriti to Sanskriti: The Journey of Indian Forms' gave me very interesting insights into the rich knowledge behind the visual imagery of the grand monuments and ordinary spaces of India. Through images, paintings and artworks, the author explores the essence of India's visual culture. Some chapters reveal the hidden meanings of symbolic elements of these visual forms. The writer shows that the visual forms of India offer spiritual wisdom and represent the shared experiences of the society rather than individual expressions. Though this is a non-fiction book, it never bores the reader. I felt a refreshing sense of discovery after reading this book.
